Identifying the open strings on a ukulele is relatively straightforward and serves as an excellent starting point for beginners. Here is a guide to assist you:

 

G String:

The top string (closest to your face when holding the ukulele properly) is the G string.

 C String:

  • The next string down is the C string.

E String:

  • The third string from the top is the E string.

A String:

The bottom string (farthest from your face) is the A string.

Here is a simple method to recall the open strings from top (G) to the bottom (A):

  • Good

  • Cows

  • Eat

  • Always

If you look at a ukulele from the front while holding it, you’ll see the strings arranged from left to right as G, C, E, A.
